Erik Schedin’s Sneaker Collection for Comme des Garcon SHIRT

Comme-Des-Garcons-Shirt-Erik-Schedin-Sneakers-2-630x441Erik Schedin‘s simple, unfussy sneakers were originally part of his 2004 final degree show at Beckmans College of Design, Stockholm. Four years later they were being stocked at the likes of Dover Street Market, Mr Mudd & Mr Gold and his own online store, a small selection of cleverly chosen goods. To celebrate the 10th anniversary of their release, Schedin has got together with Comme Des Garçons SHIRT for Spring 2014, taking that clean white canvas and adding three black images. Production having moved from Vietnam to Italy, the shoes are still fitted with the same sole sourced for his early project. Sold exclusively at Dover Street Market, find them here.

The History Behind Pharrell Williams’ GRAMMYs Hat

20140128-070521.jpg

During Sunday night’s 56th Annual GRAMMY Awards mayhem, Pharrell Williams choice of headwear stood out as a trending topic on social media platforms, Twitter nearly exploded!! It turns out, however, that the hat has an intricate design story that dates back to some of the most noted moments in hip-hop, as well as the fashion it fuelled. The hat’s bold silhouette can be traced back to Vivienne Westwood‘s design from the 1980s, when it first appeared in Malcom McLaren’s “Buffalo Girls” music video. Dubbed anything from the “Buffalo Hat,” to the “Mountain Hat” or “Jelly Mould Hat” by Westwood herself, Pharrell admits that it would have been “real stylin’” if he had an original piece from ’80s. Head here to read more on the hat’s provenance.

20140127-213239.jpg

No matter the kind of music this audience appreciates, it’d be hard to find someone who can deny the influence of The Beatles. Legends not just in their hometown of Liverpool but well into the far stretches of the earth, The Beatles’ musical canon represents progression in rock n’ roll, all the while composed with effortless pop sensibilities. It makes sense then, that Vans would team up with the Fab Four for a collection of four collaborative silhouettes – this time celebrating the band’s hallmark Yellow Submarine film. Taking the Authentic, Era, Sk8-Hi, and Slip-On silhouettes, artwork nodding to the Sea of Monsters, “All You Need is Love,” and the band members themselves adorn the uppers of the shoes.
