Last week saw the launch of the Tourne de Transmission Autumn Winter 2013 ‘Substance’ collection. Presented by Selectism and Concept by Cruise, installation by Johnny Buttons, real life, three dimensional model people sported the line while Santiago Arbelaez’s East London film played in the background. As part of New Balance‘s 25th Anniversary pack, the Boston-based company has teamed up with Japanese retailer Tomorrowland to produce this menacing take on the MRL996 silhouette. The MRL996RT features a predominantly black leather upper consisting of smooth and perforated panels. The black coloring extends to the patent leather strip running from the midfoot to heel and the RevLite midsole and ENCAP heel clip. Nike has just dropped the elusive Free Inneva Woven model in a night stadium/wolf grey colourway as a Tier Zero release today. The woven synthetic upper and leather patch heel and tongue come in tonal slate grey, with a light grey Free 5.0 rubber outsole. The look is sleek and sure to be snapped up quick. Denham presents the third generation of its fusion winter-parka/denizen smock for Autumn Winter 2013. Retaining the vintage military DNA of previous iterations, the jacket continues to embrace Mackintosh’s water-resistant fabrics, with a unique hybrid finish that incorporates Loden wool alongside the traditional gabardine and latex membrane. This mix creates a water resistant barrier whilst repelling the elements and providing additional heat. At this year’s recent IAAF World Championship in Moscow, Nike‘s sponsored athletes were treated to a selection of performance silhouettes in a bold gamma blue colorway. Now it looks like weekend athletes will be able to imitate the look of their favorite track & field athletes with this turquoise/white/black colorway of the Flyknit Racer. This racer sports a sporty turqoise and black Flyknit upper with a white Swoosh and white midsole with black trim. This latest colorway is set to hit select stockists later this year.
Various cues from current menswear trends inform the character of this season’s Era CA in dress blues and thyme. Overprinted chambray with polka dots on twill quarter panels and linings instill the casual lace-up with a sense of sophistication and luxury. In the sneaker world, it seems like new collaborations drop every hour on the hour, but this is one that’s definitely worth talking about. Engineered Garments designer Daiki Suzuki has a way of making even the most mundane clothes fresh and new. His vision of Americana filtered through a keen eye for fit, finish, fabric, and a nod to the future is what netted him our award as the Best New Menswear Designer in America in 2008. An avid surfer, it’s not too surprising to see Suzuki collaborating with storied sneaker brand Vans. The Vault by Vans line has always offered interesting takes on old classics from the likes of WTAPS and Taka Hayashi, but the Engineered Garments collab takes things to a different level. Influenced by ’70s skate rags and an emphasis on quality materials, the Authentic LX gets reimagined in a hardy 12 oz. Sunforger cotton canvas and a reversed olive sateen, but the real star is the Classic Slip-On LX, done up in three different colored leathers–the kicker is that both uppers mix up smooth leather with a slubby, unifinished hide. It’s an awesome wabi-sabi twist on a classic sneaker.
