Manchester-based photographer Nick Glackin, aka Glackster, has taken the concept of footwear photography to a whole new (and much smaller) level…
Everyday, thousands of photographs of sneakers are being posted onto the Internet through various social media channels, inevitably getting replaced or forgotten about the following day. With this in mind, Glackin went about creating a more interesting way of photographing shoes, utilising a selection of miniature model figures to set various scenes.
The scenarios he creates with the figures (many of which are custom painted) will often reference a particular element of the relevant shoe. Whether that be a nod to the colourway name, the overall theme of the shoe, or even the cultural relevance it holds within the sneaker scene.

One of the biggest trainer brands in the Eighties, Etonic is making a comeback this year – starting with this collaboration between the brand and Coogi, a knitwear label made famous by Notorious BIG in the Nineties. This particular shoe based on their staple Trans Am style. It has multicoloured woven upper very similar to the Coverse x Missoni a few years back. This has a much more premium finish hence the £295 price tag. Watch this space as the brands nears the relaunch.
Flyknit racer was my sneaker of choice last summer and it looks like I’ll be beating the same this summer because the Beaverton powerhouse has officially added another colourway to its summer offering. Balancing some bolder colour choices including a new Volt mock-up as well as a Laser Crimson iteration with a low-key monochrome version in black and white. Only available in the US up to now but expect a UK release soon.
The international sports powerhouse, Nike, has just given its popular Flyknit Racer silhouette a brand new lease of life with this aqua colorway. The two-toned sneaker features an upper crafted from a colorblocked Turquoise and Lucid Green woven Flyknit upper. The look is rounded out using a clean white midsole and black branding, which includes the Swoosh and laces.
Erik Schedin‘s simple, unfussy sneakers were originally part of his 2004 final degree show at Beckmans College of Design, Stockholm. Four years later they were being stocked at the likes of Dover Street Market, Mr Mudd & Mr Gold and his own online store, a small selection of cleverly chosen goods. To celebrate the 10th anniversary of their release, Schedin has got together with Comme Des Garçons SHIRT for Spring 2014, taking that clean white canvas and adding three black images. Production having moved from Vietnam to Italy, the shoes are still fitted with the same sole sourced for his early project. Sold exclusively at Dover Street Market, find them here.

Big feet. Stop reading now! Nike has just released the Lunar Flyknit Trainer in a sunny colourway that blends orange and yellow with volt accents, but unfortunately it’s a WMS release so if you are bigger than a 9 ½ prepare for disappointment. The Sneaks are available now from Nike Running Women’s accounts.
Nike has given U.S. retailer J.Crew a batch of the Air Pegasus ’83 in exclusive colourways. Available in two coloruways — a Hawks-esque red/yellow/black and a more subdued blue/teal/black (shown here) — the shoe offers up a great mix of casual and athletic styling. The uppers are composed of breathable mesh finished with synthetic suede overlays and also feature padded collars and a leather Swoosh. This stylish update of the classic runner also features a softer, more comfortable midsole and is finished with a classic Nike waffle sole. Look for both colorways now at J.Crew’s online store.
We’ve all felt it: The unique kind of envy that results from encountering something you want, but can’t afford. For artist Jason Ruff in his younger years, it was sneakers and cigarettes — which serve as materials for his latest project.
Using sharp scissors and infinite patience, Ruff has created perfect little replicas of classic Nike high-tops using nothing but the materials found in cigarette packs. OK, there’s some duct tape involved too. But you get the point. He describes it as “mixing the unattainable objects of my youth”, and yes — his creations definitely remind us of what it was like to be 15 and mischievous.
All things considered, these awesomely intricate little sculptures are bound to leave you wanting something. It’s just hard to decide if it’s a smoke or a new pair of kicks.

At this year’s recent IAAF World Championship in Moscow, Nike‘s sponsored athletes were treated to a selection of performance silhouettes in a bold gamma blue colorway. Now it looks like weekend athletes will be able to imitate the look of their favorite track & field athletes with this turquoise/white/black colorway of the Flyknit Racer. This racer sports a sporty turqoise and black Flyknit upper with a white Swoosh and white midsole with black trim. This latest colorway is set to hit select stockists later this year.
