Alpha Industries Classic MA-1 Jacket

Alpha Industries MA-1 | The Style RaconteurBefore bouncers, punks, skinheads and Yeezy started wearing Alpha’s MA-1 jacket it was the flight jacket of U.S. Air Force and Navy. The MA-1  jacket was the first military flight jacket to cross over into civilian fashion.

AI’s classic flight jacket includes knit cuffs, a knit collar and waistband, as well as a strong front zipper with storm flap for warmth. There are multiple snap-closure pockets as well as the utility/pencil pocket with the “Remove Before Flight” key chain. An addition to the jacket in the 60’s was the reversibility to show off an Indian Orange lining. The reason being if a plane crashed, the pilot could reverse the jacket to the orange side to signal rescue personnel, exactly what you need on a night out up North!

This classic version has been kept as close as possible to the classic specifications, it has been the subject of many colabs over the years but this in its purist version is pretty iconic.

Passarella Death Squad x Penthouse

14-01-2015_passarelladeathsquadxpenthouse_brettrossitee_white_1I first come in contact with Passarella Death Squad in around 2008 when I saw a t-shirt print of half naked girls convorting with Big Ben (The clock!) since then they have taken us on a journey fron scantly clad women to vintage arcade games..now they have teamed up with storied men’s lifestyle magazine (Jazz Mag!) Penthouse to produce a limited number of prints, based on David Cronenberg’s Videodrome. The deeply unsettling film explores the darker corners of sexuality in the information age, and these prints owe their grainy affect to its exploitative VHS aesthetic. With models taken from the Penthouse archive, the images are perfectly clipped which ooze 80’s cool. Available now…there also will be an exhibition showcasing the prints so keep your peepers out here for more info asap.

Penfield Pac Jac Jacket

Penfield Pac Jac | The Style Raconteur

The Penfield Pac Jac Jacket was made famous when worn by both Gallagher brothers in the mid 90s when Oasis were in their prime and most memorably when Noel swanned on stage in Red and Tan version at Maine road in 1996 for what was most probably Oasis’s greatest ever set.

The jacket is made from showerproof nylon with drawstring to hood, inner waist & hem and large pouch pocket on the front with Penfield logo on. The cut of the jacket is pretty amazing with 3 drawstrings giving you the option to pull it in around the waist, hem and hood, there’s no wonder it was favoured by Rock n Roll stars and it’s perfect for gigs and festivals as it folds into its own pocket for easy storage. Neil Barrett White Darth Yoda T-Shirt

neil-barrett-white-darth-yoda-t-shirt-1

British fashion designer Neil Barrett appeases to those out there that are both fans of fashion and science-fiction with the Neil Barrett White Darth Yoda T-shirt. Using the classic white tee as a canvas, Barrett prints a split-tear graphic featuring Star Wars‘ fictional characters representing the polar opposites in the good-vs-bad spectrum of the franchise’s universe: Darth Vader and Yoda. Keeping things clean save for the T-shirts title and “Neil Barrett” text on the back, the White Darth Yoda T-shirt will have you prepped early for this year’s Episode VII – The Force Awakens release in December

Stone Island Garment Dyed Flowing Camo Bomber Jacket

Stone Island SS15 Camo Bomber Jacket | The Style Raconteur

A new running theme or side collection for Stone Island this continues for Spring Summer 2015 with an design inspired by an indonesian  camouflage from the 1960’s. The garment that stands out for me is the simple bomber jacket, the fabric is a double weave military-spec fabric, made with a cotton / nylon blend weft and a linen warp, which has then been treated inside to create a light level of wind and water resistance. A classic, athletic design, it is equipped with two welt pockets, a ribbed collar, cuffs and hem and is finished with of course the detachable logo patch at the arm. Canada Goose Behind The Scenes

Canada Goose | The Style Raconteur

Gear Patrol recently visited the factories of Canadian institution, Canada Goose. The outdoor imprint has dedicated itself to the craft of keeping people warm and protected since 1957. However, the brand truly defined itself for the modern era in 1972, when CEO Dani Reiss’ father David Reiss invented the down-filling machine which led to a new range of ultra-wear and now iconic jackets. Since then, the Toronto-based Canada Goose has forged ahead in maintaining a close and intimate relationship with both the product it creates and the people it protects. The brand has recently opened the doors to a new showroom, design studio and factory that enables the rapid iteration and design of new products. This close-knit approach will further build on the credibility and growth the iconic brand has had over the course of the last half century. Nike ‘SweatSUIT’ by Clothsurgeon

clothsurgeon-customizes-sweatsuit-with-nike-tech-pack-1

Although not an official Nike collaboration, the customized SweatSUIT by Clothsurgeon is something that can easily sit at any Nike shelf. More as a personalized project, the brand took four standard grey Nike fleece sweatpants and reconstructed them into a suit jacket and pants set, dubbed the “SweatSUIT.” The single breasted suit jacket is fully lined and features working cuffs, as well as front dual bucket pockets from the fleece pant’s original pockets. The “SweatSUIT” pants feature a single pleat and is of cropped length, while maintaining the original pant’s elastic waistband. Synonymous with fine tailoring, The Clothsurgeon “SweatSUIT” is definitely a show of skill from the brand, the only downside being that this one-off isn’t for sale.

So over the next couple of weeks I try and post up what I think are the ebst of the Winter. Up first is the Canada Goose Expedition Parka. Originally developed for scientists working in research facilities at McMurdo station in Antarctica, the Expedition Parka is one of our most iconic, warmest and durable parkas. It features a highly functional collection of external pockets, perfect for easy gear storage (not that ‘gear’ I mean phone ect!) and hand warming. Everything feels heavy-duty and ‘proper’ with this jacket. Finished with flexible rib-knit cuffs which storm flap over front zipper to complete they closure to the cold.  Available here
