Engineered Garments SS11

Taking inspiration from American sportswear and outdoor outfits, New York’s Engineered Garments Spring/Summer 2011 Collection offers more than the usual with canvas bags, skinny ties and boat shoes. Fans of fauna would appreciate the floral jackets but the explorer jacket and trench seems to be a hit. Check out the full look book here

Ralph Lauren’s Car Collection

Ralph Lauren’s passion for style is certainly illustrious, but it may indeed be eclipsed by his passion for cars.  The fashion magnate himself has one of the world’s most impressive car collections, a private grouping spanning nearly 100 years of automotive history featuring the most lust-worthy marques.  A 1938 Bugatti, a 1958 Ferrari Testa Rossa and a 2010 Lamborghini Murielago highlight his private stock, rounding out a collection of automobiles that rivals some of the world’s best.  Lauren’s garage is a museum of automotive history, an archive of performance machines that represent the finest achievements in motorsport.  Want to look deeper?  Todd Eberle of Vanity Fair spent some time in Ralph Lauren’s garage, giving a private peek into the auto-obsessed world of one of today’s foremost fashion magnates. Custom Boomboxes Fashioned from Vintage Suitcases

Mr. SiMo makes BoomCases, beautiful speakers hand-set into old thrift-store suitcases. The cases have been treasure-hunted and are then gutted and re-filled with electronic goodness, ready to be hooked up to any music source with a jack-socket.

The cases can be specced with a variety of speakers to make a 50-Watt or 200-Watt system, come with a rechargeable battery that can run for over eight hours, a USB port for charging your iPod, a volume control and a mains cable.

These vintage speakers also have wonderfully evocative names: The X-Wing, the Swirly Shirly, and theButterscotch Deluxe. Suitcases aren’t the only containers, either. The Gibson Guitar Boom is built into a guitar case, and the amazing Duck Duck Boom is a single, giant speaker busting from a Disney Duck Tales lunchbox.

Depending on configuration, you’ll pay around $300 and up. The custom design service has been pulled right now due to demand, but there are still some off the shelf models to be had. Just the thing for rocking out at grandma’s house.

VAns Sk8-Hi Zebra

In addition to a Leopard design, Vans unveils a Zebra version of its Sk8-Hi, a new but surely familiar direction from the brand. Part of its basic line for Spring 2011, the shoes feature a tonal Zebra print over canvas with a leather stripe and black outsoles adding to the black-on-black aesthetic. The only color comes via a vibrant tongue tab in pink. Look for these beginning March 2011 through your local Vans stockist.

Persol 2994 & 2995

While we love the classic 649/714 Persols they don’t exactly fit everybody like Steve McQueen. Thankfully the brand is releasing two new frame shapes that not only complement the 649/714 but also make for a couple of great alternatives if they originals don’t fit your face

Martin Margiela Canvas Duffle Bag

A beautiful new canvas duffle bag comes from Martin Margiela. The upper is made of made of cotton and light beige suede. As usual the brand keeps the branding very minimal, with only the tag embroidery coming through from the lining. The bag is now available from Aloha Rag.

Jean Paul Gaultier x Guy de Jean Umbrellas

Two very talented Frenchmen come together to create a series of stunning umbrellas wrapped in patterns from Gaultier’s runway collection. If you ask my opinion, I can’t help but favour Gaultier’s signature stripes which come in the classic navy on white or black.
