Japanese cult label A Bathing Ape presents the TYPE 1 BAPEX for 2013 fall/winter. Furthering its bold aesthetics over two colorways in blue and green, the TYPE 1 BAPEX features a stainless steel bracelet and buckle in contrast to its bright display panel. With subtle BAPE accents throughout and slogan “MADE BY HUMAN” stamped at the panel’s lower, the timepiece is another standout item from the imprint’s forthcoming collection
If you haven’t heard already, legendary director and ocean explorer James Cameron plans to explore the depths of the Challenger Deep of the Marianas Trench, a feat that hasn’t been achieved for more than 50 years. For this expedition Rolex is equipping Cameron with a special version of the Sea-Dweller called the “Deepsea Challenge” which is rated to 12,000 meteres/39,370 ft, a depth rating that is beyond the currently known recorded depths of the Marianas Trench.
In celebration of its 20th anniversary, Italian streetwear pioneer Slam Jam has collaborated with Rolex on this special, limited edition version of the classic Submariner 14060 model. With a grey-colored dial, the watch features the Slam Jam logo just below the Rolex one and has contrasting red accents that cover the second hand and the twenty minute marker. With a rotatable outer bezel and unique nato strap, each watch is numbered from 1 to 20, indicating the limited run. The release also comes with a special commemorative box, modeled after the ones used in the military, that’s made from salvaged wood and can only be opened with a special Torx Key. If you’re eager to get your hands on this piece, though, you may be out of luck as the watch is not currently for sale
I am a massive fan of Project X and their custom Rolexs (even though they are waaaaay out of my price bracket), catching my eye at the moment is the Submariner Stealth series, a line of high-end timepieces that marry elegance and ruggedness in one. Designed by Strength & Guile, the watches supposedly borrow their inspiration from SBS commandos, the British Royal Navy’s special forces unit. No, the watches won’t descend upon hostile territory and begin shooting enemy units, but they look cool while pretending to do just that.
Two watches are currently available on the Submariner Stealth line: the MK III and the MK IV. Both come with blacked-out bezels, reed green G10 NATO straps secured by military fixed bars and “Stealth” inscriptions on the black dial, making for timepieces that are equal parts stylish and rugged (Rolex claims the construction can withstand the rigors of the most hostile environments!!). Only 28 examples each of the timepieces will be produced, priced at £8,750 and £9,950, respectively. Buy (I mean look) here
This year marks the 40th anniversary of the Rolex Explorer II so its only right that the company celebrate the occasion with a brand new version. The new Explorer II gets a larger 42mm case and features the company’s new 3187 calibre that boasts Paraflex shock absorbers and a non-magnetic Parachrom hairspring. They’ve also captured the look of the 1971 original with an orange 24-hour arrow hand.
Rolex BLACK LTD Edition project follows on the notion of customizing select Rolex watches. However, the releases go a bit further by using well-maintained vintage Rolex styles. Working with select Rolex experts in Geneva, Switzerland, the watches are bed blasted for cleaning and subsequently shipped off to the United States for PDV treatment. The watches are available now through the Lane Crawford jewelry department
